Choosing Shiatsu for relaxation
Many different types of relaxation techniques exist and it is not always easy to find one that suits our needs and expectations.
An efficient and powerful technique is Shiatsu.
By understanding what shiatsu stands for and how it is applied may make our choice easier.
Shiatsu is a form of body work that originated in Japan based on traditional Chinese medicine 2000 years ago, and has been widely practiced around the world since over 50 years.
Shiatsu is a physical therapy that supports and strengthens the body’s natural ability to heal and balance itself.
It’s not a classical massage technique where muscles and tendons will be massaged.
Shiatsu’s name comes from two Japanese words–shi (finger) and atsu (pressure).
The therapist will apply pressure with fingers but also using palms and elbows.
This pressure is applied to specific pressure points on the body, based on meridians, as they’re called in traditional Chinese medicine.
This form of massage also focuses on rotating and stretching limbs and joints.
It works on the whole person – not just the physical body, but also the psychological, emotional and spiritual aspects of being.
The theory behind shiatsu is that our bodies are made up of energy, called chi, and that energy gets blocked and causes suffering.
Shiatsu massage helps remove the blockages by working on specific meridian points.
Shiatsu also restores the circulatory system and improves blood flow throughout the body.
At Blue Tree massage, Shiatsu is practised for relaxation and destressing of the body and mind only without any medical or therapeutic application.
