This technique was invented by the Swede Per Henrik Ling, who was also known to have developed a gymnastic method called the « Swedish ».
It is characterised by movements applied on the muscle tissues and the articulations, using a combination of soft movements and strokes that are more vigorous and dynamic. It is known to effectively release muscle ‘knots’ and tension, but also encouraging the flow of blood to the heart.
This technique is practiced on a massage table with oil. The intimacy of the client (who is in underwear) is preserved with the aid of towels that are placed on the body.
It particularly helps:
- physical and mental relaxation
- improved circulation
- muscular relief
- tension and stress release
- enhance sleep
